The John Paul Jones Chapter, one of fifteen regional Maryland Society Chapters, is the largest of the chapters comprising the greater State Society with close to 100 active members on the rolls. It’s an exciting time to be an active member of the John Paul Jones Chapter as many unique events will be celebrated across the nation in commemoration of the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution. Events not unlike our recent Chapter’s amazing commemoration of the burning of the Brig Peggy Stewart here in Annapolis on 19 Oct 1774 are happening all around us in 2025 and the years to come. I encourage everyone to participate in as many ‘America 250’ events as possible. If you are an active Chapter member, by attending ‘America 250’ events, members of our Society can earn points towards the award of unique America 250 medals. For those of you reading this message who might have an interest in SAR membership, know that the John Paul Jones Chapter is actively recruiting new members where, as the ranks of our active membership age, the Chapter always has a real need for new membership growth. So, please Join Us is you can! New members of all types of work, career and personal interest backgrounds always bring new insight and fresh excitement with them when they join the John Paul Jones Chapter. New members make our Chapter not only larger, but also more diverse and better able to offer more of value to the greater Anne Arundel County community through the many citizenship, scholarship and other programs & activities supported by the John Paul Jones Chapter. Most of our youth programs promote winners from the Chapter level on to possible greater State and National Society awards. We welcome anyone interested in membership where the applicant is able to confirm using documentation that he is a direct ancestral bloodline descendant of a Revolutionary War Patriot by providing appropriate SAR acceptable documentation of one’s lineage. The Son of the American Revolution does not restrict membership on basis of race, age, color, religion, national origin, nation of citizenship or residency. I can guarantee that if you join our Chapter, you’ll be happy you did.

While the SAR membership application process can be somewhat confusing at first glance, the John Paul Jones Chapter has experts amongst the Chapter membership who stand ready to assist and sponsor any new membership applicant wishing to complete an application for membership in the Sons of the American Revolution. Males of any age can join our Society and there’s even an SAR ‘Family Plan’ where multiple family-member descendants sharing lineage to a common Patriot ancestor can join our Society together at the same time. We encourage family membership of all ages where the John Paul Jones Chapter annually supports a number of youth opportunities for scholarship and learning among the other shining facets of our organization.
Our Compatriot members make our Chapter Great.
For those of you who are already Compatriot members of the John Paul Jones Chapter, I’d like to strongly encourage you (as well as all of the greater Chapter membership of both active and inactive Compatriots) to come and participate in this year’s scheduled Chapter meetings and events. Chapter meetings this year will surprise you as we’re working to bring a slate of interesting speakers to present talks at the Chapter meetings and we’ll also be having some great items related to John Paul Jones at in raffle bags at each meeting. If you are a member who’s not been to a meeting in a while, please know that we miss you and want to see you again when we gather for meetings and events this year.
We gather and meet formally on a quarterly basis in a local venue. The schedule of John Paul Jones Chapter meetings and events can be found on our Calendar. Visitors are encouraged and more than welcome to attend John Paul Jones Chapter meetings and many of the events we participate in and support.
